What I Hope to Achieve Through Respiratory Medicine

I am currently in my third year as a physician and working at Sagaseki Hospital.
What inspired you to pursue respiratory medicine?
I chose respiratory medicine because I felt it was the field that best matched my goal of becoming a physician capable of providing comprehensive internal medicine care.
During my training, I was deeply impressed by how the physicians carefully stayed close to their patients and provided attentive bedside care.
I was inspired by the way they looked beyond respiratory diseases alone and treated patients comprehensively, taking into account their overall condition and personal background. It made me feel that this was an environment where I, too, could grow significantly as an internist.
Respiratory medicine is a specialty that covers a wide range of conditions, from infectious diseases such as pneumonia to chronic illnesses like COPD and interstitial pneumonia, as well as lung cancer treatment.
I was also attracted by the opportunity to support patients continuously through acute care, chronic care, and even palliative care.
Through exposure to such diverse diseases, I felt this field would allow me to strengthen my overall internal medicine skills while providing medical care in close connection with patients, which ultimately led me to join the department.
What kind of physician would you like to become in the future?
I aspire to become a physician who values each patient’s background and personal values while maintaining a balanced expertise in both respiratory medicine and general internal medicine.
I hope to continue refining my skills every day so that I can provide the best possible care while staying close to my patients, just as the physicians who impressed me during my training did through their attentive bedside practice.
