Encountering manual techniques and the respiratory system

Graduated in 2023
I graduated from Oita University and am in my third year as a doctor.
I am currently working at Beppu Tsurumi Hospital.
What inspired you to pursue a career in respiratory medicine?
Originally, I didn’t want to become a respiratory medicine specialist even when I was a student, but I vaguely thought that I would like to work in a department where I could perform camera examinations and procedures.
During my first year as a resident, in April and May, I had the opportunity to train in respiratory medicine at a university hospital, where I gained experience with bronchoscopy and drain placement, and experienced the breadth of the medical field, which sparked my interest. After that, in May of my second year as a resident, I gave a presentation at a conference, which prompted me to decide to join the respiratory medicine department.

What kind of doctor would you like to become in the future?
First of all, I would like to acquire the knowledge to be able to treat a wide range of medical fields as a respiratory medicine doctor.
On top of that, I would like to be able to provide treatment that is tailored to the patient’s condition and situation, and treatment that is sensitive to their feelings.
A word for students and resident doctors:
I think that both as a student and as a resident, it is often difficult to decide which department to choose. In particular, as a resident, you can rotate through departments quite freely, so try to actively try out the departments that interest you.
